Lamisil is indicated for the treatment of a fungal infection of fingernails and toenails due to tinea unguium. It acts by inhibiting the enzyme, squalene oxidase which blocks the synthesis of bacterial and fungal cell walls thus preventing growth.

Potential side effects

Pregnancy and breast-feeding cautions
Pregnancy category B. There is very limited experience with terbinafine in pregnant women, therefore unless the potential benefits outweigh potential risks, generic lamisil tablets should not be used during pregnancy.

Terbinafine is excreted in breast milk. Mothers receiving lamisil tablets should not breastfeed. Use of the spray or cream is unlikely to affect the baby.
